🔦Data centers are moving off-grid to meet AI demand - distributed power generation is saving butts as usual🔦
"Powering the Growth of AI and Data Centers" - Advanced Energy
Data centers are huge energy hogs and require 24/7 uptime. Utility companies don’t generate enough power to supply all of the new interconnection requests that they are getting. For example, OpenAI and Oracle just announced a new 4.5 GW data center, that’s enough to power half of Los Angeles. To make sure that they can keep the servers on, tech companies are scrambling to build new power plants behind the meter (AKA off-grid) to provide uninterrupted power to their precious GPUs.
